What’s Going On

It’s Been a Busy Summer, It’ll Be a Busy School Year

Welcome back to another busy school year!  This has been a busy summer.

I attended the Broadcast Educators Association conference in Las Vegas with my friend Cigdem Slankard from Robert Morris University, where we were on a panel entitled The Backyard Documentary. I talked about funding said documentaries.

After teaching my Media Ethics class, I took a group of my Valdosta State University students to the 10th Annual Macon Film Festival to interview filmmakers for our TV Show, VOD Indie. We met some great filmmakers – from fellow professor/filmmakers to music video directors to the ORIGINAL Tom Servo!! – who we’ll be have on-air soon and on our VODIndie.com page even sooner. The great Burt Reynolds was also there and was kind enough to answer some questions from my students.

This past week, I attended the University Film & Video Association conference at American University in Washington, DC. While my friend Debra Sea, of Bimidji State University, and I gave a workshop on various tools to help with online/distance learning classes, we were also able to catch up with fellow UNCG Spartans such as J. Scott Parker of Virginia, Nicole Triche of Elon University, and Emily Edwards … still at UNCG. It was a great conference filled with helpful information and presentations. I’ll try to share more as soon as I can.

But now, a new semester is beginning. Media Economics, TV Studio I, and my Video Workshop focused on service learning in our community are all on the tip of my tongue.

It’s going to be a busy few months. Please stay in touch to learn what’s coming next.

Be well & stay in touch
